Edit Mule Auto Scratch is a fantastic tool that assists in dealing with some of the annoyances of the Final Cut cache system. As FCP normally functions, all of your render files and other cache for each project ends up in a single location (they like to keep it in your Documents folder for some reason). Unfortunately this does not make the process of archiving your work very easy should you ever want to go back to a completed project and pick up where you left off without having to re-render everything. With Edit Mule’s Auto Scratch, you are able to create “links” for each FCP project that lets you select a location for the render files related to each individual project. It takes a moment to do the initial set-up, but the hassle it saves in the long run makes it worth your time.
